1946 up to the present day

AMB was founded in 1946, in Stekaremåla, by three associates: Osvald Astevall, Ragnar Magnusson, and Helge Bergkvist. The company's name was formed using the initials of its three founders. After investing in bakelite presses, the company began subcontracting work manufacturing electrical articles for Perstorp AB. It wasn't long before AMB began developing its own electrical products, such as power plugs and three-way switches, as well as consumer products like egg cups and Christmas decorations.

As thermoplastics began to emerge in the late 1950s, AMB invested in its first injection moulding equipment. AMB was the first company to manufacture plastic installation boxes, which sold in the millions during the 1960s. Circular dimming units and ceiling cups based on the company's own designs also became big sellers. In 1973, AMB began working with vacuum metallisation, a technology where aluminium is vaporised to give plastic a thin metallic layer. From the beginning, vacuum metallisation was used for decorative purposes, although nowadays the same methods are used within the lighting industry to achieve reflective surfaces, as well as within electronics to produce shielding layers. By around the turn of the century, mobile phone enclosure shielding had become our dominant sector of activity.

Today, AMB in Broakulla can consider itself one of the biggest players in the northern-European market for surface treatment of plastics. Besides vacuum metallisation, we also offer coating of plastics using sputtering technologies and multi-component painting. Our injection moulding capacity has been extended to include cleanroom production, and we also provide assembly solutions to our customers. Primarily, our customers are active within the medical technology, public lighting, and electronics industries. With a workforce of around 130, AMB is now in its third generation of ownership in the Magnusson family.
