Chromium and nickel effect

Since it is a polyamide, a so-called primer must be applied, which is a base coating that creates adhesion against the material and the following surface treatment layers. The primer levels rough surfaces, which is important for the next step.

We usually use aluminium in our metallising, which gives a reflective and shiny surface. But we can also use an alloy of nickel and chromium. Firstly, we pump out air from the metallising drum to a certain pressure. The metal alloy is then heated up until it starts to boil. The metal vapour then condenses on the helmets, which rotate to get a layer that is as even as possible. We add an extremely thin layer, only 80 nanometres.

We now have a fine chromium effect on the parts, but as the layer is so thin we must protect it by adding a clear varnish. Once it has hardened, the helmet is packed and sent to the customer for assembly.
Where is the product used? The purpose of a welding helmet is to protect during different types of welding, welding sparks (hot or glowing particles) but above all the intense light that your eyes need to be protected against. The welder can look through the glass with helmet on when beginning to work. As soon as the bright light is generated, the screen changes so that the light is filtered and the welder can see without damaging the eyes.
